Ateneo Summer Program Marks its 25th

For a quarter of a century, during
the months of April and May, the Ateneo becomes a second home and a learning
hub to the best and the brightest in Zamboanga, Basilan, Pagadian, Sibugay, Zamboanga
Del Sur, Jolo, and Tawi-Tawi through the Ateneo Senior Summer Program (ASSP).

The Program

What used to be a preparatory
program for college, the ASSP has evolved to adapt to the k-12 curriculum. Gathering
together a select group of young students preparing for Senior High
School, the ASSP aims to introduce them to campus life and to have them
experience Jesuit Education and Senior-High-Level professors, programs,
facilities, and activities.

Modified senior high school
courses have been designed to stimulate interest and participation in the
unique seminar which the Ateneo offers free of charge. Participants are chosen
from those recommended by the principals or counselors of various schools.
Tests are administered to all applicants and the most qualified are accepted.

Aside from the core academic courses,
there are also special lectures on senior high school level areas of study,
classroom lectures, and laboratory activities. There are also opportunities for
non-academic activities such as group discussions, immersion trips, and
projects initiated by the participants themselves. A diploma-certificate is
awarded to those who satisfactorily complete the program.

The ASSP 25

This year’s Senior Summer program
will run from April 6 to May 20, 2017. The first three days of the program is
intended for an introductory course on Personhood.

Alliance Evangelical School, Ayala National High School, Basilan National High School,
Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School, Elordino C Coronel-Baluno National High
