Ateneo Lantaka campus Inauguration held today

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) held the inauguration of its new Lantaka campus along NS Valderosa St today, March 19, 2019. The inauguration commenced with the unveiling of the campus marker. Set in a blue background, it bears the AdZU seal, the school name in full, and below it, Lantaka campus,” with the classic Lantaka typeface preserved.

Photo shows AdZU Father President Karel San Juan, SJ (third from right), with Ruth Owen, AdZU BOT Member; Fr William Kreutz SJ, Former AdZU President; Atty Laisa Alamia, AdZU BOT Member; Mayor Beng Climaco; Fr Louis Catalan Jr, SJ, AdZU VP for Higher Education; and Engr Efren Wee, AdZU Chair of the Board.

An inaugural Mass followed, in thanksgiving for the gift of the donation of the new campus. A simple program was held afterwards, with messages delivered by AdZU chair of the Board Engr Efren Wee; former AdZU president Fr William Kreutz, SJ; City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar; and AdZU president Fr Karel San Juan, SJ.

Fr San Juan, in a memo sent earlier to the AdZU community, stated that the new AdZU Lantaka campus will be used for “educational, spiritual, religious, and social development purposes,” in the service of the University’s mission in education, formation, and social transformation in Zamboanga and Mindanao, for God and country, pro Deo et patria.

In the same memo, Fr President also thanked the donor, philanthropist Ms Hilda Walstrom, “for this generous gift” and for partnering with AdZU in carrying out its mission. He vowed that the University will be responsible stewards of the property, which he described as “a beloved cultural heritage icon in Zamboanga”.

A team formed by Fr President has been tasked to prepare the new campus. Updates on its development will be announced in due time, including when the University will officially start operations in the new campus.
