Continuing its tradition of reflection and renewal, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University College of Nursing held its annual faculty retreat at the St. Ignatius Spirituality Center in Samal Island, Davao, from July 4 to 10, 2024
The activity, organized by the College’s Formation Officer, Ms Lucia Loreli M Macrohon, with the support of the Dean, Dr Maria Lorna B Paber, once again provided the faculty and staff a meaningful opportunity to pause, reconnect, and deepen their shared mission as nursing educators.
The retreat sessions were facilitated by Fr Rene Tacastacas, whose thoughtful guidance and reflections inspired participants to strengthen their faith, renew their dedication, and embrace their vocation as formators of future nurses. The serene atmosphere of Samal Island provided the perfect setting for prayer, rest, and contemplation.
Following the retreat, the group visited Eden Nature Park and Roxas Night Market in Davao City, where they enjoyed moments of rest, recreation, and fellowship amid the city’s scenic and lively surroundings. Laughter and camaraderie filled these shared experiences, reinforcing the bond among the faculty outside the academic setting.
To cap their journey, the faculty and staff visited Ateneo de Davao University for a benchmarking activity, where they exchanged ideas and best practices on nursing education and institutional development.

During their visit, they also had the opportunity to reconnect with Fr Karel San Juan SJ, former President of Ateneo de Zamboanga University and now President of Ateneo de Davao University. The encounter was both nostalgic and inspiring, as he warmly welcomed the group and shared words of encouragement and leadership insight.
With hearts filled with gratitude and spirits renewed, the College of Nursing faculty returned home inspired to continue their mission of nurturing compassionate, competent, and committed nursing professionals—ever grounded in faith and the Ignatian spirit of service.
