AdZU CITS Intensifies Student Engagement in Engineering, IT through SEDAP

sedap-activities

To coincide with AdZU’s mission of forming leaders through excellence in education, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Center for Information and Technology Services (AdZU-CITS) serves as a hub for vocational training in the field of Engineering and Information Technology. Through the Skills Enhancement & Development Apprenticeship Program (SEDAP), the university provided learning opportunities and trainings for graduating students of Notre Dame of Jolo College (NDJC) for a month-long deployment from January 30 to February 28, 2023.
Headed by AdZU-CITS Director, Engr Eugene S Kanindot, SEDAP was conducted as a response to the call for innovation and to produce industry-ready professionals not just from within AdZU but to share the vocation with neighboring institutions.

20 pre-selected students underwent the program with the supervision of their adviser, Warda A Moh Kasim. The interns were deployed to the Senior High School Advance and Basic Computer Laboratory, College Advance and Basic Computer Laboratory, and CITS Office to practice and enhance their capabilities on computer-related tasks such as data communication, computer system restoration, and networks.
Furthermore, to maximize the efficiency of the month-long deployment of the students, the AdZU-CITS prepared a series of training sessions for the interns that aided in pacing up such skills. One of these is the Google Basics with Google Sheets and Google Forms session given by Engr Louie Virgil A Gallardo, Engineering Department Chair from the College of Science in Information and Technology on February 4, 2023.

For the following week, the interns had separate sessions on Basic and Advance Programming given by the University Assistant for School Systems, Ms Jolicar B Maranga of the CITS. In the subsequent week, the students had training on Google Workspace and Digital Tools for Education by Romeo Rabajante Jr, the University Administrator for Learning Management System (LMS) on February 11, 2023. An additional topic about the Internet of Things (IoT) with the theme “Revolutionizing Industries and Changing the Way We Live,” was given by Aljerrou A Alfonso, IoT specialist and was conducted on February 18, 2023. For their last week, the students had hands-on training on Adobe Photoshop Basics and Fundamentals of Graphic Design given by Alvin Rey Ricalde, the Web and Graphic Designer from CITS.
The interns’ inventiveness and ability to repurpose damaged equipment were evaluated through a task that required them to create useful tools from faulty computer parts and systems. Fortunately, the students were able to successfully produce recycled items such as a wall clock, a desk organizer, a garbage bin, and a griller.
This program has been an immersive and informative experience for the interns. It gave them the opportunity to explore the latest IT trends and technologies, gain practical insights, and develop new skills for real life application. These training sessions shared by the experts ensured that every participant has brought with them a deeper understanding of the topics presented.
AdZU CITS continues to look forward to future collaborations with other institutions that will help young aspiring IT experts reach their fullest potentials.
