ADZU ACLG trains more bridging leaders in Siocon

The Ateneo Center for Leadership and
Governance (ACLG), in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Siocon,
conducted a Barangay Health Leadership Management Workshop (BHLMW) on June
13-14, 2014 at the Siocon Cultural and Exhibition Center. The activity aimed to
help participants understand and identify health issues in their respective
barangays and come up with a concrete action plan in resolving the health
inequities in their areas.

The workshop was attended by 26
barangay Captains, 26 Kagawad for health and 26 barangay Health Workers in the
municipality of Siocon. The output of the workshop is a three-month jumpstart
work-plan where each barangay can focus on making a change in the community.
The work-plan was designed to be parallel to the municipal health action plans
so that the municipal office can collaborate for better health outcomes.

One of the highlights of the
training was the heartwarming message of Mayor Julius Lobrigas quoting the
exact words Prof. Ernesto Garilao who said “One who is not transformed cannot
transform.” He also added that it is not enough that leaders are elected but
they have to go through a series of learning opportunities to better serve
their people. The ACLG realized that Mayor Danilo Dalid of the municipality of
Tigbao and Mayor Julius Lobrigas of the municipality of Siocon, are examples of
Local Chief Executives who believe in the significant role of the barangay to
help effect sustainable change in their community.

Furthermore ACLG is affirmed that,
through its leadership and governance trainings to the LGUs, there are leaders
who go beyond personal ownership of the issues in their community and engage
other stakeholders to co-own the challenges for greater impact.
