Version 1 (formal)
It is my honor to introduce Reverend Father Guillrey Anthony Andal of the Society of Jesus, the esteemed 5th President of Ateneo de Zamboanga University. Fr Andal, affectionately known as Fr Ernald, entered the Society of Jesus in 2003 and was ordained to the priesthood in 2014. He holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership for Social Justice from Loyola Marymount University, with a distinguished academic background, including degrees from Loyola School of Theology and Ateneo de Manila University.
Fr Ernald's leadership extends beyond our institution, as he serves on the Board of Trustees for multiple Ateneo schools across the Philippines. He is also the President of the Zamboanga Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi Association of Private Schools, a Regional Trustee of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines, and the Regional Program Director of the Private Education Assistance Committee for Region 9.
Committed to the Jesuit mission of providing quality education, Fr Ernald is dedicated to fostering a culture of inclusive communication and just leadership through Ignatian discernment. His passion lies in engaging with students, exploring diverse topics from contemporary culture to theological reflections, and nurturing an environment where faith and reason flourish together.
Please join me in welcoming Fr Guillrey Anthony "Ernald" Andal, SJ, a visionary leader shaping the future of Jesuit education in the Philippines.
Version 2 (less formal) Allow me to introduce Fr Guillrey Anthony Andal, SJ, affectionately known as Fr Ernald – a name cleverly blending his parents' names, Erlinda and Reynaldo. As the 5th President of Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Fr Ernald brings a perfect mix of smarts and heart to the job.
Born in Quezon City, this Tagalog native picked up Bisaya during his Bukidnon days – talk about linguistic flair! Fr Ernald's journey with the Jesuits began in 2003, leading to his ordination in 2014 and an impressive academic trek. With degrees from Ateneo de Manila, Loyola School of Theology, and a doctorate from Loyola Marymount University in LA, he's got the credentials to match his approachable personality.
Beyond the boardrooms of various Jesuit institutions where he serves, Fr Ernald is in his element when engaging with students. He's as comfortable discussing K-pop sensations like BTS as he is exploring the ethical implications of AI in education or finding God in everyday life.
A fun fact: Fr Ernald often weaves contemporary tunes into his prayers, bridging tradition and modern culture. As we welcome him, we're excited for a leader who promises to guide AdZU with both excellence and compassion.
