65 Educators Participate in AI Integration Training at AdZU for Future-Ready Instruction

In its continuing commitment to academic innovation and excellence, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) convened 65 educators for a two-day capability-building program on the integration of Artificial Intelligence.

Organized by the Center for Digital and Blended Learning (CDBL), in partnership with the School of Education (SED), the training dubbed “Teaching in the Age of AI: Strategies for Integrating AI in the Teaching and Learning Process,” gathered faculty representatives from across units and participants from partner institutions in Zamboanga City, Basilan, and Jolo, strengthening a shared commitment to innovation in education through artificial intelligence.

The training opened with a purposeful and forward-looking program that set the tone for the two-day engagement. Day 1 focused on foundational and transformative concepts through the sessions “NextGen Instruction: The Role of AI in Education and Prompt Engineering,” facilitated by Dr. Maureen Olive B. Gallardo and Engr. Louie Virgil A. Gallardo. Participants explored how artificial intelligence is reshaping instructional design and classroom engagement, while also developing practical skills in crafting effective prompts to maximize AI tools for teaching and learning applications.

Moving from theory to practice, participants engaged in a hands-on workshop on generative AI, producing functional outputs, including a simple web application, through AI-assisted coding. The session demonstrated how AI can streamline both technical and pedagogical tasks, enabling educators to design innovative and efficient learning resources. The day concluded with an output showcase, feedback exchange, and synthesis, reflecting strong collaboration and enthusiasm among participants.

Day 2 deepened the engagement through practical exploration and design. Mr. Romeo A. Rabajante Jr. introduced a range of AI-powered educational technologies, emphasizing their use in supporting differentiated instruction, content development, and student engagement across disciplines.

In the afternoon, Dr. Dorothy Joann Lei L. Rabajante, PhD, together with Ms. Leah P. Mata, facilitated the Designing AI-Integrated Teaching and Learning Activities workshop. Participants collaboratively developed AI-led activities and instructional outputs that address course pain points, integrating AI tools into the learning process. The training culminated in the presentation and critique of outputs, the identification of policies for AI use, followed by a closing program that underscored the importance of responsible and purposeful AI integration in education.

Anchored in its mission of forming competent and socially responsive professionals, AdZU continues to lead initiatives that empower educators to navigate and shape the future of teaching in the age of artificial intelligence.
