On the occasion of the Solemnity of the Immaculate
Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary December 8 last year, AdZU held the
Blessing and Inauguration of the Faustino Wee Saavedra (FWS) building, the new home
and training ground of its Senior High School students.

Towering high along La Purisima Street, the edifice is
equipped with state-of-the-art facilities with its rooms designed to provide a
most conducive learning environment for its students to develop the necessary
21st century skills. 


In attendance were the most Reverend Romulo dela Cruz,
Archbishop of Zamboanga; Zamboanga City Mayor Hon Ma Isabelle “Beng” Climaco-Salazar,
members of the Saavedra family, donors and benefactors, distinguished guests,
and members of the AdZU community, with the board of trustees led by its chair,
Engr Efren Wee; administrators, faculty and staff.  


During the program that followed the blessing, Father
President Karel San Juan, SJ, and other well-wishers shared one message, that
of how each is helping and contributing to the development of Zamboanga City
and Mindanao. Fr San Juan presented the building as a collective effort of the
whole Ateneo community in keeping with the more than a century old tradition of
quality education in the city.


City Mayor Beng Climaco followed suit, expressing
support of Ateneo in its undertakings to better improve the socio-economic
status of Zamboanga City.


Chair of the Board of Trustees, Engr Efren Wee marked
the inauguration as a milestone in AdZU history as it continues in its attempts
to provide the best learning environment possible for its students.


Towards the end of the program, Atty Evangeline
Doctolero, on behalf of the Saavedra family, extolled the values for which Faustino
W Saavedra, the man after whom the building is named, stood for.
