LIDAR 2 turns over agri & coastal maps to city govt
Agricultural and coastal resources maps of Zamboanga City produced by the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) Phil-Lidar 2 Project were formally turned over to Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar in ceremonies held at the Zamboanga City Hall last March 3, 2016.
The maps, expected to complement local government agricultural projects for region 9, feature the land cover of six agricultural districts in Zamboanga City, including Ayala, Tumaga, Culianan, Manicahan, Curuan and Vitali. Each district is identified as crop or non-crop and further classified as “Mango,” “Coconut,” “Mangrove” and “Built-up.”
The ADZU Phil-Lidar 2 project is a three-year project undertaken in Zamboanga Peninsula using planes equipped with Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology, to provide local government units and agencies with agricultural land cover and coastal maps of the Zamboanga Peninsula.
Present during the turnover ceremony were DOST 9 Regional Director Brenda Nazareth-Manzano; AdZU Phil-Lidar Project Leader Mario S. Rodriguez and AdZU Phil-Lidar 2 Chief Senior Research Specialist Mr Geoffrey M. Fabian, and City Agriculturist Diosdado N. Palacat, together with the heads of the different Agricultural Field Offices.
Earlier, Palacat and Director Luisito J. Peñamora of the Philippine Coconut Authority – Zamboanga Research Center (PCA-ZRC) signed an End User License Agreement (EULA) at the Audio-Visual Center (AVC) on March 2, 2016. The EULA stipulates, among other matters, terms and conditions on the use of the maps in electronic/digital format.
