The Ateneo de Zamboanga University Fr Jose T Bacatan SJ Library opened the 8th Book Fair on January 27, 2014 at the Carlos Dominguez Conference Hall Salvador Campus. Present during the opening ceremonies were Mr Christian Olasiman who represented Hon. Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, Mayor of Zamboanga City, Dr Emmylou B Yanga, CHED-IX Regional Director, administrators, faculty and staff, and students of the university.
In his message, Father President Karel S San Juan SJ stressed the importance of making library users aware of the value of print materials and expressed his support for the activity. Dr Emmylou Yanga also challenged the librarians to be front liners in disseminating information to the reading public.
Several Booksellers from all over the country participated in the event: Belview Company, CD books International, DD Knowledgeseller Enterprises, Fastbooks Educational Supply, Forefront Book Company, F&J De Jesus, and Great Books Trading, Megatexts Phil. Inc.
The event was put in moratorium for the past four years. However, it can be expected that the Book Fair shall once again be an annual event. The event closed on January 30, 2014.
