With the theme “Living 100 Years of Excellence, Spirituality, and Citizenship,” the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) commemorates its Centennial Jubilee Celebration this year.
Starting the festivity with a day packed with activities yesterday, the celebration continues as three more noteworthy events took place on Friday, July 28.
The ADZU High School Department joins the festivity by gathering its students at the ADZU Multi-Purpose Covered Courts (MPCC) and allowing them to not only enjoy but also learn from the different activities culminated in the morning. A unique adaptation of a popular game on television branded as “Pera O Bayong ala Ignacio” aimed to test the knowledge of the freshmen on the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, and the colorful history of ADZU. The sophomores also had their share of the limelight as they creatively used a selection of Jesuit songs for their energetic song and dance presentations. Chanting their hearts out were the juniors who gave their unique interpretation of the Centennial Celebration theme in a lively cheer dance competition.Meanwhile, the seniors proved that their creative juices could be used to create a beautiful montage of Centennial Panels and in a remarkable skit centralizing on Ateneo’s coming of age this year. The half-day event proved to be a wonderful opportunity for showcasing of unique talents of High School students, as well as providing them an avenue to learn in the process.
Done simultaneously with the High School activity was the half-day Centennial Blood Letting Activity at the ADZU Bellarmine-Campion Lobby. For the first time, three major organizations, namely El Consejo Atenista, ADZU Infirmary, and the FFP-NSTP department of the Social Awareness and Community Service Involvement (SACSI) office, joined hands in coming up with this advocacy. Spearheading the event was Sheryl Ann Abdukahil, FFP-NSTP Coordinator, who said that the bigger workforce allowed a more dynamic process of inviting students and alumni to donate blood become possible.
Ending the day was the much anticipated Blackout Party which was organized by the El ConsejoAtenista. By just purchasing tickets sold at 50 pesos each, the students enjoyed a night of fun as they enjoyed dance and song numbers from different Ateneo student performers. To add spice to the night, a refreshing Centennial Punch was also made available to the crowd at the cost of 10 pesos. Moreover, the Centennial Revolution Dance Contest served as the highlight of the event where different participating groups exuded their unique skills in dancing to win the crowd’s favor. And finally, winding up the night with a blast, was the much celebrated disco portion of the program that lasted until 10:00 PM.
The second day of celebration did not only bring the festive mood of the ADZU community to a higher level but also heightened the anticipation of everyone for the Grand Launching of its Centennial Jubilee Year on July 30.
Truly, as days go by, the Blue Eagles only show more reasons as to why the Centennial Celebration will prove to be nothing but extraordinary.
