School of Education Week 2010

The School of Education celebrated the Education Week last September 6 to 11 having the theme “Celebrating a Hundred Years of Jesuit Education and Leadership”. There were sorts of activities prepared to build rapport and camaraderie among students. Some of the activities were: Seminars on Ignatian Way of Proceeding and Leadership, Sports Fest, Coastal Clean-up, Operation Shoebox, Quiz Bowl, a booth for mailing a thank you letter to the different teachers and others. Those activities were set also to develop the Ignatian values and leadership among the education students and to prepare the students for the upcoming Ateneo Fiesta.
In relation with the school’s celebration of one hundred years of spirituality, the School of Education conducted the Seminars on Ignatian Way of Proceeding and the Ignatian Leadership having Fr. Alberto Alejo, SJ and Fr. Willy Samson, SJ as resource speakers. All of the education students and some faculties were invited in the said event.

Another big event was the Sports Fest which was also an avenue in preparation for the Ateneo Fiesta. There were lots of sports prepared like the volleyball, softball, table tennis, basketball, soccer, futsal, and tug-of-war. All of the education students, except Muslim brothers and sisters who were celebrating the end of Ramadan that day, were encouraged to go to school and join the activities. Also, the dean of the school of education, Dr. Evelyn G. Chavez; the EAO moderator, Mrs. Daisy M. Quisel; and all of the teachers in the PE department were present that time. At the end of the day, though the weather did not cooperate, the students and teachers still enjoyed.

Before the week adjourned, the education students had the coastal clean-up at the RT Lim (Boulevard) at exactly five in the morning. About 60 people came together with the dean of school of education. The cleaning of the said place finished at 7 AM where everybody proceeded to the school to attend the university mass.

The week ended with an informal program where the students had fun with parlor games like bring me, paint me a picture, trip-to-Jerusalem, and dragon’s tail. The former governor of the EAO, Mr. Jemar Peniones, was present that time with the El Consejo Atenista group. The day ended with a processing of the different activities conducted that week.
