HS Faculty gears up for new school year in Summer-in-Service

HS Faculty gears up for new school
year in Summer-in-Service

Fresh from a successful 5-year PAASCU re-accreditation, the
AdZU High School faculty buckled up for work a month before classes open in
June for school year 2011-2012. Albeit an annual event, this year’s
Summer-in-Service features a more formative approach with the inclusion of both
personality and spirituality development activities in addition to professional
reinforcement and enhancement sessions.

In her welcome orientation, Principal Janet Fernandez reiterated the need for the
teachers to have a renewed sense of commitment for Ateneo education and
imbibing a formation that their students can emulate. She also reiterated the
requirement of consistently referring to the school’s mission and vision when
formulating programs or plans.

As such, identified segments include a review of AdZU High’s philosophy and
objectives in connection with reports of PAASCU recommendations, a revisit of
the proposed articulation of the Understanding by Design (UbD) and the Ignatian
Pedagogical Paradigm (IPP) as a precursor to departmental and plenary planning
on the development of instructional materials, teaching strategies, lesson plan
designs, classroom management and formative assessment.  Also included is
a 3-day seminar on Peace Education, as the school seeks a more pronounced and
measurable integration of the subject across curricular and co-curricular
fields.

Faculty members will also get to have training for disaster management plus
inputs from the Philippine National Red Cross, essentials given the current
situation.

In all, the high school faculty will find itself ready for
the next ten months of school work, and as what Campus Ministry director Honey
Rod Alfaro assured, “We’re all in this together.”
