Keep ADZU Campuses Flu-less Zones

29 July 2009

MEMO TO: THE ATENEO COMMUNITY

RE: KEEP ADZU CAMPUSES FLU-LESS ZONES

As of this writing, there have been at least 3 confirmed cases of A(H1N1) in our Ateneo community, and at least 26 confirmed cases of the same in Zamboanga City.  The Grade School community thus far has been very cooperative. Everyone submits to body temperature assessment to determine flu-like ailments.

Upon the advice of Task Force A(H1N1) and our doctors, it seems best for the time being to replicate the Grade School experience and apply it to the rest of our two campuses.  For those in Basic Education, I leave it up to its leadership to determine how to conduct body temperature assessment.  If a student is found to have a flu-like ailment, s/he goes to the clinic for advice.  For the members of the faculty and staff, and students in the tertiary level, body temperature check will be done as they enter the campus.  If the person is found to have a flu-like illness, this will be recorded and, when applicable, an excused absence slip will be issued.  I do realize that this procedure can be inconvenient to all parties concerned, but I hope this is one good way of keeping our campuses flu-less zones.

I require all those afflicted with flu-like ailments to please observe home quarantine procedure. This body temperature check will take effect on 03 Aug until provisionally 16 Aug 2009, from 6.30 AM to 6.30 PM, except Saturdays (PM) and Sundays.  We will evaluate this measure within two weeks. I thank our nursing students, security and medical staff for implementing this procedure.

Let us remind each other of the need to observe home quarantine procedure when having flu-like ailments.

Thank you for your compliance.
