AdZU Gallery to mount Gerky’s 2nd Solo Exhibit

In celebration of Hermosa Festival 2009, The Gallery of the Peninsula and the Archipelago (GPA) of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) will feature the 2nd Solo Art Exhibit of Gerky Valesco entitled “Algunas Veces” from October 05 to November 06, 2009.

Organizing this event is part of the continuous effort of the AdZU to promote and give recognition to the local artists in the city and the region.

Gerky Valesco has been known to many as a multi-faceted media personality having worked in TV, Radio, and Print media, as a public servant, and as a visual artist.

He was a national awardee in painting category during the Ninoy Aquino Youth Talents Awards (NAYTA) in 1989. And he was conferred by Pres. Corazon C. Aquino in August 21, 1989 at the Meralco Theatre.

He has joined many significant art exhibits and has been the president of the Art Association of Zamboanga (AAZ) from 1997 to 2001. He also headed the “Artes y Colores de Zamboanga Art Group” from 2003 to 2004.

In April 2009, he donated two of his recent artworks; “Un Castillo” and “Salva Vida” to the Ateneo de Zamboanga University with the hope of giving inspiration to the budding artists in the city.

“Algunas Veces” means sometimes in Spanish and Chavacano, the artist having an occasional time to showcase paintings after he won a seat in the City Council in 2007 which has made him one of the busiest councilors in the city. Last year, he was named as the neophyte councilor who filed the most number of ordinances and resolutions among which are for the promotion of local arts and artists.

The exhibit will display more than twenty recent and old artworks of different subjects all in oil on canvas.

The official opening of the show is on October 5, 2009 at 5:30 in the afternoon.
