AdZU’s Fr Jose T Bacatan, SJ Library hosted an American Corner (AC) US Embassy Talks entitled “Let’s Talk: Understanding and Facilitating Dialogue on the Different Social Issues” last September 25, 2019.
The US Embassy Talks, held at Carlos Dominguez Conference Hall (CDCH), is a signature speaking program of the American Spaces of the U.S. Embassy. The forum highlights a relevant agenda on guiding the youth towards responding to the different social issues present today by strengthening mutual understanding and engagement between the Philippines and the United States.
The symposium featured four U.S. Government alumni resource speakers to talk about different topics they have selected. These speakers include John Mayo M Enriquez, Assistant to the President for Social Development in AdZU, Christopher C Kingco, Sangguniang Kabataan Chairman of Talisayan, Fr Francisco “Koko” S Parilla SJ, the Assistant Principal for Formation in AdZU SHS, and Christian E Olasiman, the current City Special Events Head in the City Government of Zamboanga City. The speakers respectively tackled peace education and youth empowerment, the importance of education, peace and security, and youth governance.
As the forum went on, the audiences were invited to ask questions and give their insights about the topic. A teacher from the Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School shared that talking about these issues is very timely as it will give insights to the youth for them to know what can be done to administer these social concerns.
The event was attended by selected institutions in the city, such as those from Talisayan National High School, Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School, Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School Stand-Alone Senior High School, School Western Mindanao State University, and Ateneo de Zamboanga University.
The event was made possible with the sponsorship of the US Embassy, American Spaces Philippines, International Visitor Leadership Program, and YSEALI.
