Languages Department Hosts Spanish Appreciation Seminar

The Languages Department of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University, together with Abiva Publishing House and Editorial Edinumen, will host the Spanish Appreciation Seminar, Curso de formacion para profesores de espanol, on October 08, 2011, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the College Audio Visual Room, Ateneo de Zamboanga University Main Campus.

The program aims at giving Spanish and Foreign Language instructors, both in the secondary and tertiary levels, updates on teaching strategies in the following contexts: guidelines for the development and integration of basic Spanish language skills; communication, fluency, and accuracy; utilization of textbooks in the teaching of Spanish language; and Spanish lexical competence and information processing.

The workshops will be conducted by Dr. Maria Luna Vico, Assistant Professor of the European Languages Department, University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.

The Department of Education recently incorporated elective subjects on foreign languages in its secondary curriculum for both public and private schools. Also, some colleges and universities around the country continually mandate 12 units of basic Spanish. Thus, this is a very timely opportunity to expose language instructors to the latest developments and strategies, particularly in teaching Spanish.
