The College of Science, Information Technology, and Engineering (CSITE) celebrates its 20th anniversary with gratitude, gathering students, faculty, staff, and esteemed guests, including AdZU President Fr. Guillrey Anthony M. Andal, SJ, Vice President for Higher Education Fr. Rene C. Tacastacas, SJ, and plenary speaker Dr. Anabel E. Gamorez, WMSU-SERDAC Center Head for the CSITE@20: Research Colloquium with the theme “AI in STEM: Advancing Research and Innovation Frontiers” on February 18, 2025, at the Carlos Dominguez Conference Hall (CDCH), Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU).
In the opening remarks, CSITE Dean Dr. Jocelyn D. Partosa reflected on the college’s growth and future, highlighting Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a powerful tool for advancing research and STEM education. She encouraged attendees to actively engage in research, ask questions, and learn from the presentations.

Fr. Ernald’s keynote explored AI through three lenses: Gift, Challenge, and Invitation. He highlighted AI as a gift that enhances learning, a challenge that pushes us to define our humanity, and an invitation to ensure AI serves everyone, especially the marginalized. He concluded: that AI can predict, but not hope; generate, but not dream; read emotions, but not love.
An inspiring message was also delivered by Fr Rene encouraging everyone to not stop being curious or asking why and what if even in the presence of AI. He mentioned that the best research is not theoretical but real-life experiences – that we have to look beyond the surface of everyday life. He concluded by challenging participants to question and deepen their understanding of reality.
Dr. Anabel E. Gamorez’s plenary discussed AI’s basics, emphasizing the Garbage In, Garbage Out (GIGO) principle and AI’s lasting role in education. She encouraged adapting to AI responsibly and concluded that tools should serve, not replace human intelligence.

To deepen the discussion, an open forum was held, allowing participants to explore AI’s role in education and its broader applications as a tool. This was followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially launch the poster presentations which showcased various research and innovative projects.
The first part of the event was more than just an insightful learning experience—it became a platform for interaction, connection, and envisioning the future, not only for CSITE but for the entire AdZU community.

The afternoon session of the CSITE@20 Research Colloquium featured an engaging oral presentation, where faculty, staff, and students actively participated in discussions sparked by thought-provoking research. Seven (7) presenters from various fields shared their work—two (2) from Natural Sciences, three (3) from Engineering, and two (2) from Computer Science—each contributing unique insights and innovations. These discussions fostered collaboration and inspired new ideas for future advancements.
Beyond celebrating its 20th year, CSITE continues to champion young researchers, encouraging them to refine their ideas, no matter how rough, and pursue innovations that hold the potential to make a lasting impact on the community.
CSITE recognizes and appreciates researchers, both students and faculty, who use their knowledge and innovation to serve others and improve lives for the better.
The CSITE extends its warmest congratulations to the following:
