Youth for A Change Implements A Youth-Led Community-Driven Initiative

Written by Lisette C. Cimafranca

Dicayas Dipolog City, December 20, 2023 |The Senior High School (SHS) of the Alternative Learning System (ALS) are the key participants of  Youth For A Change’s project KASA-DYA: ALS SHS Family Day. The event aimed to celebrate the achievements of ALS learners and to foster a sense of community support. ALS provides an alternative path to education for individuals who, for various reasons, were unable to complete their basic education. This project served as a platform to recognize the hard work and determination of these learners.

The preparation for the event started last December 09, 2023 at the Galas National High School Covered Court, Dipolog City, where Youth For A Change started to lay the groundwork by conducting an Orientation, Stakeholder Forum, and Call for Volunteers

The event unfolded on December 17, 2023, at the Galas National High School Covered Court, led by Project Leader Lisette C. Cimafranca and her dedicated team of volunteers. The event brought together ALS SHS learners, their families, and esteemed guests, including Emil Banua (Galas National High School Assistant Principal) and Sheila Mae M. Magale (Galas ALS SHS Adviser), creating an atmosphere of celebration and community support.

The project concluded with an awarding on December 20, 2023, at the Upper Dicayas Integrated School Covered Court where the youth volunteers were recognized for their hard work as they were awarded with certificates.

Youth for A Change, an organization comprised of officers and volunteers from Upper Dicayas Integrated School, Zamboanga Del Norte National High School, and Jose Rizal Memorial State University, marked a milestone with the successful implementation of Project KASA-DYA. The initiative showcased the dedication of the youth towards fostering positive change and inclusive education.

The planning and execution were facilitated by the strategic involvement of key partners from SAP, UNICEF Philippines, Generation Unlimited, YOMA and the SUGPAT Program of Ateneo de Zamboanga University’s Learning and Teaching Excellence Center. Let’s LEaP, an initiative of the SUGPAT Program, played an important role by providing technical assistance, capacity-building, and a fund grant to support the project’s implementation.

The support from Dr. Liza R. Tabilon, Dipolog City Schools Division Superintendent, and Jose Rey Adriatico, Galas National High School Principal, and Maria Riza Z. Lagroma Upper Dicayas Integrated School Principal, ensured seamless project implementation. Their endorsement allowed the volunteers to utilize the Galas National High School Covered Court, providing a venue and essential resources and learner participation as youth volunteers.
