Renowned Art historian John Silva to grace Ateneo’s Nat’l Arts Month Celeb

Art curator John
Silva, executive director of Ortigas Foundation and
former
senior consultant of the National Museum, will walk his audience down memory
lane as he talks on
MEMORIES
OF ZAMBOANGA AND MINDANAO PAST on February 26, 2018 at 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM at
the Gallery of the Peninsula and the Archipelago, Ateneo de Zamboanga
University (AdZU), Salvador campus, La Purisima St.

Silva’s
presentation is one of the events lined up for AdZU-Ateneo Center of Culture
and Art’s celebration of National Arts Month, with the theme, Ani ng Sining,
Alab ng Sining
(Harvest of the Arts, Flame of Art).

The
National Arts Month celebration at AdZU opened February 12, with “ANI NG
SINING: A Visual Arts Exhibit,” featuring works by student artists of AdZU
side-by-side with “Postcards from High Country” showcasing the paintings of local
artist Mijan Jumalon.

Kiko
Miranda, ACCA director, reported that there has been an increased interest and
participation among students in this year’s National Arts Month festivities
which on the local front, celebrates the richness of Zamboanga’s artistic,
cultural, and historic heritage and the boundless creativity of Zamboangueños.

“We are happy that student artists
come to our Center and help us organize events for National Arts Month.  We hope na dadami at dadami pa ang susuporta sa activities ng Center,”
Miranda enthused.

Other activities in the line-up include
CINEMA ATENISTA: One-minute Smartphone Film Contest, ALAB NG MUSIKA: A
Songwriting Contest, and to cap the celebration, ALAB NG SINING: The Culminating
Concert and Awarding Ceremony on February 24 at 4:30 pm at the BC Quadrangle in
Salvador campus, La Purisima St.

The annual celebration of National
Arts Month began in 1991 with Presidential Proclamation 683 declaring February
as National Arts Month. It is held to highlight the bounty of artistic
endeavors in the Philippines and the passion of Filipino artists and cultural
workers.
