Protocol on suspension of classes due to bad weather

02 July 2015

MEMO TO : THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY

RE : PROTOCOL ON SUSPENSION OF CLASSES DUE TO BAD WEATHER

We usually expect inclement weather conditions at this time of the year, but accurate prediction can be a challenge. We, then, encourage everyone to monitor the situation on reputable local radio stations.

The City Mayor is authorized to suspend classes by virtue of Section 2 of the Presidential Executive Order No. 66, s. 2012 (Localized Cancellation or Suspension of Classes and Work in Government Offices). Thus, when a suspension order is given by the City Mayor, unit heads are expected to follow. There is no need for confirmation by the University President.

When the decision calls for the discretion of the School heads, we shall disseminate the information on our official Facebook account, through a memo or a radio announcement by our University Communications Officer, Ms Yen B Delgado.

I urge the heads of units and offices to assert discretionary authority on this matter, and for the higher education students and parents of basic education students to use their discretion for their own safety and protection.

Thank you.

FR KAREL S SAN JUAN SJ
University President
