On 19 June 2009, Friday, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Fr Manuel “Manny” A Uy Jr, SJ formally received his mission as the new President of Sacred Heart School – Jesuit (SHS-J). Fr Jose Cecilio J Magadia SJ, Provincial Superior of the Philippine Province Jesuits, presided and preached at Mass in the SHS-J gym in Cebu City where Fr Uy was formally missioned as SHS-J President. He succeeded Fr Ernesto O Javier SJ, SHS-J Director for 18 years. Fr Uy comes from Zamboanga City. He graduated from Ateneo de Zamboanga having finished AB English – History in 1985 with very high distinction, Cum Laude and Class Valedictorian. Fr Antonio F Moreno SJ attended the missioning ceremony to represent AdZU, Fr Uy’s Alma Mater. In nearly a century of Jesuit education in Western Mindanao, only three graduates from Ateneo de Zamboanga have become heads of Jesuit schools: Fr Eusebio G Salvador SJ, Director of Ateneo de Zamboanga from 1938 to 1947, Fr Randolph L Lumabao SJ, new Director of Fr Leoni Memorial High School in Cabanglasan, Bukidnon and Fr Manuel Uy Jr, SJ.
