Library hosts forum on LGBT economic issues
A noted expert on economic issues of the LGBT community will be main speaker during the forum The Social and Economic Impact of LGBT Exclusion to be held at Ateneo de Zamboanga University on August 19, 2015.
M.V. Badgett is an economics professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and is director of the Center for Public Policy and Administration based in the same university.
The forum is organized by the Fr. Jose Bacatan, SJ Library through its American corner. The visit of Badgett is courtesy of the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in Manila. It will be held at the Carlos Dominguez Conference Hall from9:45 to 11:15am.
Badgett earned a B.A. in economics from the University of Chicago in 1982, and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1990.
Before University of Massachusetts, she was also on the faculty of the University of Maryland, College Park. Since 2005 Badgett has also been the research director at the UCLA Williams Institute.
Her research interests include labor economics; employment discrimination; economics of sexual orientation; same-sex marriage.
Badgett has done extensive research on economic issues of lesbians, gay, bisexuals and transgenders. She has testified as an expert witness before the US Congress and other legislatures and in various litigations regarding same-sex marriage.
