Kumustahan reignites Ignatian values in new hires

The Spinola Center in Tetuan turned into a vibrant place for 33 faculty and staff of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University during the Kumustahan, an annual activity initiated by the Human Resource Administration and Development Office. The event’s main objective is to re-establish Ignatian values among the newly hired employees of the Ateneo.

HRADO ensures that the new employees,a number of whom are graduates of AdZU and some from various colleges and universities in the region, assimilate well into the Ateneo environment by re-igniting the institution’s core values like curapersonalis or personal care for one another. This goal can be achieved by journeying with them as they adapt to the community.

As a follow through of the employee orientation held June last year, the Kumustahan is composed mainly of discussions and fun games about AdZU, St. Ignatius of Loyola, and the Ignatian Paradigm. In other sessions, participants pondered on their personal values and shared in small groups about their most remarkable life experiences.

“The Kumustahan is a great opportunity to take a break from work, but more importantly, a good venue for us to get to know other employees as well. We played games that made us realize that everyone has their own fun side,” says Carla Tan, FFP-NSTP Formator in SACSI.

Patrick Enriquez, Audio Visual Staff of the Fr. Jose T. Bacatan, SJ Library, shares that the “activity was a nice experience for me. We were given insights about the different aspects of our career that drives and inspires us to stay in Ateneo. The facilitators and speakers of the different sessions were also good and inspiring.”

Virginia dela Cruz, a Grade School faculty, handled the session on marking out the participants’ personal values, as well as recounting their high and low moments in life. Liza Garrido, Ateneo Grade School Principal, facilitated the concluding session that encouraged the participants to have a deeper look into their purpose and mission as employees of the Ateneo.

The Kumustahan is part of HRADO’s employee formation track. A series of trainings and seminars for all AdZU faculty and staff will ensue within the year.
