JUNIOR JOURNALISTS CLUB
Grades 4 – 6
RATIONALE

The Junior Journalists Club is an organization in the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Grade School in charge of the publication of The Quill, the official school paper.
This club is a support program for the curriculum of communication arts in the Grade School. Through the activities of this organization, students are trained to write for the school publication. They are specifically trained to write news and literally piece, prose and poetry articles. They are made aware of the truth and facts and are trained to accurately report all these to the whole school community.
Through writing each member of the Junior Journalists Club is given the freedom to express him/herself and develop his/her God given talents which would prepare him/her to face far more challenging experiences.
OBJECTIVES
The Junior Journalists club aims:
1. to develop among the members of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Grade School Community a greater sense of identify as Ateneans by;
a. informing them of events and activities involving the school and encouraging greater participation from among the school’s faculty, students and non-teaching personnel in these activities.
b. making them aware of issues and problems affecting the school and encouraging the expression of individual news relative to these.
c. promoting genuine Christian values and teaching which the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Grade School as a Catholic school upholds, and strives to impart these to its faculty, students and non-teaching personnel.
2. to make the members of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Grade School community more aware of their respective roles in Philippine Society and in the world by helping them formulate informed perspectives of local, national and global issues and problems; and
3. to support the school’s academic program by providing students with opportunities for the discovery and development of their God-given talents and skills in writing.

1. Recruitment of new members

3. Giving of positions and individual tasks
4. Seminar-workshop on how to run a school paper
5. Semantic maps and writing
· A group activity where each child cooperates to share one’s idea to develop a story.
6. Awareness and observational powers
· The children will be asked to go outside the classroom, to observe every little thing around them. They will then be asked to write their observations.
7. Written activities
· Write/create a story out of their observations.
8. Small-group activity
· Individual sharing of short story made.
9. Interviewing important personalities in campus
10. Writing articles
11. Participating in the production and distribution of school paper.
12. Participating in inter-schools paper-writing contest.
13. Evaluating the publications/papers
14. Participating in press conference.
