23 March 2023
Dear Ateneo de Zamboanga University Community,
I encourage each to be part of Earth Hour. It is an annual global event that raises awareness and inspires action on climate change and other environmental issues. With millions of people worldwide, let us turn off our lights for one hour on Saturday, March 25, 2023, from 8:30 to 9:30 PM.
This short but significant gesture reinforces the urgency of addressing environmental concerns, especially in light of our recent experience with natural calamities, i.e., the torrential rains and massive flooding in October and December last year and January this year.
Pope Francis emphasizes, in Laudato Si, our connection and shared responsibility for one another and the world.
We are all responsible for addressing the worsening condition of our environment and its effects on our communities. Earth Hour is a simple but powerful opportunity for us to show concern for one another as interconnected sisters and brothers living in our common home.
In the spirit of unity and solidarity, let us come together as a community to observe Earth Hour and show our resolve in confronting environmental challenges. Let us pause and reflect on our environmental impact and look for ways to lessen our carbon footprint.
Thus, I hope all Ateneo de Zamboanga University community members will participate in this global event.
Thank you.
May God, our One Creator, bless us all.
