HOPE International delegates to visit Barangay Dulian
HOPE International Development Agency is a non-profit international development agency based in Canada which has the mission of improving the supply of basic human necessities for the neediest of the needy in the Third World. One of the major overseas projects that HOPE International Development Agency implements in the different third world countries, such as the Philippines, is the Clean Water and Sanitation Program.
One of the beneficiaries of this project is Barangay Dulian, a partner community of Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU)-Center for Community Extension Services (CCES). Barangay Dulian is located at the East Coast of the city and is considered as a hard-to-reach and isolated community. One of the most pressing needs of this community is their lack of access to potable water. The people rely on creek and river for their drinking water which had proven unsafe and is the main cause for the prevalence of water-borne diseases in the community. In 2008, Diarrhea is listed as the primary cause of death and ranks second as the leading cause of morbidity in the community.
Recognizing the needs of the people, the barangay local government unit of Dulian, through the CCES, collaborated with Assisi Development Foundation (ADF) and HOPE International Development Agency for the installation of water project in their barangay.
Since its inauguration last May 06, 2010, the Dulian Water Project has shown good management of the project. The managerial approach and the strategies of the People’s Organization and the Barangay Local Government Unit in the implementation of the project was recognized as one of the best practices among other implementers of the same project under ADF.
Hence, HOPE International Development Agency delegates coming from Canada, and their partner implementers from Ethiopia and Cambodia, together with ADF Manila, will visit barangay Dulian on the 28th of April to see the results of the project and to gain experiences as well from the PO’s and BLGU’s that may be of help and emulate them in their own community. The team will be coming to the city from Dumingag on April 27 until morning of 29.
Previously, HOPE International Development Agency delegates visited Zamboanga City to also witness the installation and turn-over of their Water Project in Luuk, Limpapa, also a partner community of ADZU-CCES.
