GPA holds Christmas cards design contest to mark Centennial

The Gallery of the Peninsula and Archipelago (GPA) in cooperation with AdZU Grade School Unit held an On-the-Spot Christmas Card Design Contest on September 17 to October 15, 2010 at the AdZU library.

The activity was themed “Living One Hundred Years of Spirituality” in keeping with the university’s Centennial in 2012. It aimed to promote the love of art among children and as well as provide opportunity to showcase their talents in visual arts.

A total of 88 students, from the senior preparatory class to the grade six classes participated in the first elimination.

Three major winners were chosen per category. Rozel Dominique Bangalando, Catherine Aquino, and Sean William Aquino for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in the senior preparatory to grades two level.

For the grade three to four category, Lorenzo Andrei Bayot won first place, Timothy Miles Gangoso won second place, and Phoebe Kaye Grace Buentipo, third place.

Grades five and six pupils composed the third level of the contest. Alyssa Diaz got the first place, Benedick Damian for the second place, and Fiona Elisse Morales for the third place.

The winning entries will be featured in the official ADZU 2010 Christmas Cards.

The winners received other prizes as well. The first prize winners received art materials and a free registration to one GPA Summer Art Class.

The second and third prize winners also received art materials and a 75% and 50% discount respectively to GPA’s summer classes.

The contest was judged according to the following criteria: Relevance to the theme, creativity and originality, and over-all impact.

The awarding was held on October 18, at the Gallery of the Peninsula and Archipelago.
