FFP-NSTP

Background

The First-year Formation Program (FFP) – National Service Training Program (NSTP) are merged for purposes of a more integrated psycho-social and political formation vis-avis community service.

The First-Year Formation Program (FFP) complement the academics and intellectual growth of the students with other areas of formation: psycho-social, emotional and spiritual. The National Service Training Program (NSTP), on the other hand, enhances the youth’s civic consciousness, defense preparedness and active contribution to the general welfare by developing the ethics of service of patriotism while undergoing training in any of its programs components.

The merging facilitates the complementation of FFP and NSTP based on “Experienced Reflection-Action” paradigm. For instance, the FFP provides all the necessary theories and principles and the processing of Experience concerning Ateneo/Jesuit Education, Personhood, social consciousness, responsible citizenship, etc., while the NSTP Provides the venue for actualization or application for the theories and principles acquired.

As part of the requirements for graduation, the merging of the two programs shall result to a total of 4.5 units per semester. These programs are to be taken for two (2) semesters intended for all incoming first year students.

The FFP-NSTP, as a formation program composed of two complementing components, shall have only one grade which is computed based on 1/2 FFP grade and 1/2 NSTP grade. Each component though shall have separate guidelines for grading.

Objectives

Pre-eminently formative in nature, FFP-NSTP at the end of the students’ first year, should have been able to provide content and processes that facilitate among students the following:

a. Self-awareness and self-development

  • Realization of strengths/weaknesses, potentials and capabilities
  • Enhance understanding of Personality and Adolescence
  • Appreciation of God-given talents and resources

b. Growth in interpersonal relationships indicated through:

  • Increased sense of belongingness
  • Ability to relate to others and to express oneself
  • Community building
  • Teamwork

c. Adjustment to college life

  • Meeting the minimum academic requirements and demands
  • Personal discipline, ability to follow the rules and regulations

d. Appreciation and internationalization of the AdZU vision-mission and the Jesuit Education Thrust.

e. A developed and mature integration of one’s faith vis-avis one’s life responsive to the call of the time.

f. critical social conscience through social awareness and involvement.

g. Development of leadership potential and interests to participate in campus activities and related student affairs that will continue the enhancement of one’s wholistic formation.

h. Understand their respective roles in society specially the duties and responsibilities that they should comply as citizens of this nation.

i. Internalize the various virtues and positive characteristics they have learned throughout the course and apply it in their everyday activities.
