DECEMBER 10, 2011

Saturday of the Second Week of Advent

Reading 1: Sirach 48:1-4, 9-11

Psalm: Ps 80:2-3, 15-16, 18-19

Gospel: Matthew 17:9, 10-13

Today’s reading which is about the coming of Elijah and his rejection by the very people he was sent to serve reminds me of a person’s failure in life to find God. God gives us many signs concerning His plan for us.

John the Baptist was once a “sign” and he brought a message of repentance and renewal in the coming of the Messiah.

How many times have we been shown signs by God to repent and get ready for the Lord’s coming?

What have we done to prepare ourselves for His coming?

Are we religiously preparing for this momentous event?

Have we loved others enough? Have we forgiven those who have brought hurt upon us?

As faithful servants of God we must prepare for the arrival of Jesus by turning away from everything that hinders us from loving Him and our fellowmen.

Prayer: Lord our God, as we prepare for your coming, we pray that we will be able to move away from all that stops us from recognizing you in all things. Amen.
