CPVA facilitates Dance Workshop

The Center for Performing and Visual Arts facilitated a three-day dance workshop with the theme “Let’s Dance to the Edge” on February 19-21 at the AdZU Multi-Purpose Covered Courts.

Students, P.E. teachers and members of dance troupes from several schools: Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College, Western Mindanao State University, Zamboanga City High School- Main, Bethany and Zamboanga State College of Marine Science and Technology along with CPVA’s dance troupe, the AdZU “Baile Folklore” participated in the workshop.

Moreover, it was facilitated by known and respected dance teachers in the city, Earl Francis C. Pasilan, Ma. Blanca Flor R. Jimero, Ellenieta A. Capacio, and Janice V. Cañada while Alicia Lourdes Mas-Soriano (President of Jambangan Dance Company Inc. and founder of WMSU Jambangan dance troupe) served as the key note speaker.

According to an interview with Mr Earl Pasilan (Teacher demonstrator and Resource Person for Dance and Dance Forms and Ethnic Dances), he stated that the objectives of the workshop are to deepen understanding of oneself as an artist and one’s knowledge in dance, establish linkages amongst and within dance troupes in the city, and highlight the advancements of Zamboanga-based dance troupes in the field of dance and their artistic creations.

The third day ended with a culminating activity from 4:30-7:00 pm wherein the participants showcased their learning on ballet, dance sport, ethnic and folk dance, contemporary, and popular dance.“This workshop did not incur any registration fee, as AdZU, thru CPVA, wishes to help rebuild the city of Zamboanga by reaching out to potential dance troupes in the city,” Pasilan ended.
