beyond reasonable doubt that it can compete with the best law schools
nationwide, t
he Ateneo de Zamboanga University’s College of Law finished
fifth overall at the 2017 National Moot Court Competition on International
Humanitarian Law (NMCC on IHL), held October 2-6, 2017 at the UP College of Law
BGC campus in Manila.

Second year law students Kelvin
J. Culajara and Shahiva Tazhnim Jadraque composed the AdZU-COL Mooting team. AdZU came in 5th after champion University of the Philippines;
Ateneo de Manila University, 2nd place; San
Beda College-Mendiola, 3rd; and in 4th, University of San Agustin.

Seventeen law schools
participated in this year’s competition with teams debating before a simulated
International Criminal Court, cases of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The case for this year’s contest was the fictional Prosecutor vs. Gerard Vande,
focusing on war crimes against the civilian population; rape, and displacement.

This is the third in a row that
AdZU-Col bested some of the country’s top law schools.
In 2015 and 2016, it garnered second
runner-up honors in the mock court challenge. In both occasions, the University
was represented by Ahmad Rais Undug and Earl Larroder.

NMCC on IHL is organized by the
International Committee of the Red Cross – Philippines and the Philippine Red
