COCOPEA Mindanao Chapter Forum on K+12

The Coordinating Council of Philippine Educational Associations (COCOPEA) in coordination with Zamboanga Basilan Sulu Tawi-Tawi Association of Private Schools (ZAMBASULTAPS) and Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP)- Region 9 held a forum on “Basic Education K+12 Model and its Tri-Level Implications” on January 21, 2011 at the Carlos Dominguez Hall, Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Zamboanga City.

One hundred twelve (112) school heads and administrators of private schools across Western Mindanao attended the forum. Fr Antonio F Moreno SJ, Chair, COCOPEA- Mindanao Chapter and president of Ateneo de Zamboanga University welcomed the guests and participants. Atty Joseph S Estrada, Executive Director of Philippine Association of Private Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAPSCU) gave the perspective setting of the consultation and forum. Dr Chito B Salazar, representing Philippines Business for Education (PBEd) talked about the effects of K+12 Program on the basic and higher education. Dr Horacio M Montefrio, president of International Electronics and Technical Institute School System (IETI), presented the “TECHVOC” or the Technical Vocational courses which complement with the K+12 program.

During the consultation the Basic Education group expressed their concern on the Educational Service Contracting (ESC) new guidelines for SY 2011-2012. Their concern on the allocation of slots and selection of grantees was the main focus of the discussion.

Also present during the forum were Ms Rhodora F Ferrer, Executive Director of Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP), Dr Patricio C Dionio, Executive Director of COCOPEA, Ms Marjorie Mendenilla, Executive Director of TEVSAPHIL and Atty Joseph S Estrada, Executive Director of PAPSCU.
