CCES established indigenous learning system

The Center for Community Extension Services facilitated the groundbreaking ceremonies of the school of the Subanon community in Monte Central barangay Patalon on June 1, 2012. This historical event in the lives of the Subanon was attended by children, parents, community leaders, ZC West Tribal Leaders Organization and representative from the BLGU and DepEd. The groundbreaking was highlighted by a thanksgiving ritual lead by Bolian Eddie Mandias.

The IP Education Program is the new program of Center for Community Extension Services which started last school-year (2011-2012) in partnership with Assisi Development Foundation Incorporated, Department of Education and Barangay Government Unit, National Commission for Indigenous People. IPED offers Early Childhood Education,Edlementary Education (Grade 1 and 2) and Alternative Learning System for OSY and adults. It operates in three (3) IP communities in Zamboanga City where in education for indigenous people is the core concern. The communities include Sitio Monte Central barangay Patalon, Sitio Campo Uno barangay Labuan and Sitio Lakangan barangay Lamisahan.

The program envisions to empower the Subanon community to claim, exercise and protect their rights to peace and development in accordance with their culture and tradition.
