C. Use of Laser printer and DeskJet’s

To get the longest service life of equipment such as printers, users should follow the guidelines:

1) To conserve toner or ink, when printing, shift the printing quality to draft or econo mode if the document is not yet in its final form.

2) To avoid feed-roller holder assembly breakage, never use the laser printers to print on papers like acetates instead use a photocopier.

3) To avoid print quality problems such as toner specks or smearing, always leave the surrounding area free of dust or objects that may harm the equipment.

4) To prevent damage to the toner cartridge, do not expose it to light for more than a few minutes. Cover it with a sheet of paper.

5) To avoid printer overheating, regularly, request for cleaning and lubrication (at least every quarter) with the Center’s Repair Services.

6) To avoid paper jammed problems, when using recycled papers, make sure that the paper is not wrinkled, not folded and free of staples, or magnetic objects.

7) To help prevent multiple sheets of paper from feeding through the printer, always remove all paper from the paper input tray and straighten the stack when paper is added.

8) A refillable cartridge or toner may be requested at least once after every new toner / cartridge is used up.

9) Avoid transferring printers to and from different computers. Use the network feature to share printers.

10) Do not plug printers into any UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) outlet as this will drain the batteries of the UPS very easily.

11) Always observe office protocol when using the printer facilities. Students or other users are not allowed to use the equipment unless authorization is granted.
