Mr. Abdel Aziz A. Alfad, a freshman Mathematical Science student, bested forty students in this year’s Math-Stat Quiz Bowl, sponsored by the Math Department of the College of Science and Information Technology and was held on July 21, 2009 at the Carlos Dominguez Conference Hall.
Mr. Neilson Nick DLS Alinsañgan placed second and Adriel Earl A Toribio third. Both are Accountancy students from the School of Management and Accountancy.
The Math-Stat Quiz Bowl is held annually and is participated in by all first-time freshmen students enrolled and ranked first and second in Math 100, Math 101 or Math 210 class, or those students who have obtained at least 93% in the College Algebra Proficiency Examination (CAPE).
The winners will represent ADZU in the 18th Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) in the Regional Level. The champion in the PSQ Regional Level will represent Region 9 for the National Level Competition. Mr. Ralph Anthony A. Espos, one of ADZU’s representatives in the Regional Level last year, was regional champion and went on to win third place in the National Level.
The PSQ is sponsored by the National Statistics Office (NSO).
Mr Abner C. Alvarez, a faculty member of the Math Department, will coach the three winners of the Math-Stat quiz as preparation for the PSQ.
