Ateneo to host 1st Mary Forum in Zamboanga

Ateneo to host 1st Mary Forum in Zamboanga

The ADZU community, Muslims and Christians alike, will have a fresh perspective on the Blessed Virgin Mary as it organizes, through its Muslim Affairs Office, the first Mary Forum set on January 25 to 26, at the Carlos C. Dominguez Hall, Salvador Campus.

The
Mary Forum aims to continuously weave the path of peace and dialogue in
Southern Philippines by promoting a sense of appreciation of a woman
who is held in high-esteem by both Muslims and Christians.

In partnership with Pacific Dialogue Foundation Inc., a Turkish interfaith and community engagement organization based in Manila, the forum will create an avenue to get to know the Virgin Mary more as she will be presented according to two faith traditions—Islam and Christianity. This activity forms part of the observance of the World Interfaith Harmony Celebration, scheduled on the first week of February 2016.

Fr. Wilfredo Samson, SJ, AdZU Assistant to the President for Formation, will speak on the Virgin Mary from the perspective of Christianity, while Cihangir Arslan, Pacific Dialogue Foundation President, will share insights from the point of view of Islam.

The first day of the forum, January 25, will be attended by students of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University, while the second day (January 26) is scheduled for the Ateneo faculty and staff, and members of the Zamboanga Basilan Sulu Tawi-tawi Private Schools Association (ZAMBASULTAPS).
