Artworks: The Basyang Project
The Ateneo Peace and Culture Institute (APCI), in cooperation with the Gallery of the Peninsula and the Archipelago (GPA), hosted Artworks: The Basyang Project, a workshop on creative writing and visual arts, in celebration of the National Arts Month and the World Day of Social Justice on February 20. The Volunteer Initiative Project was organized by former peace campers Arwald Candido and Kirk Didal aim to raise the awareness of student participants and future readers of the social realities in the community through the creation of big story books based on the life stories of different individuals.
The workshop consisted of two phases. In the first phase, the participants underwent two sessions. A creative writing session was given by Mr. Marion Guerrero to help the participants enhance their creative writing skills. The second session was given by Mr. Nelvert Anino to enrich participants’ artistic skills. For the second phase, the students gathered stories of adults and children who are working and living in the streets. Using their creative writing and drawing skills, these stories will then transformed into a picture book.
The students are expected to submit their final big books on March 9, 2013. These books will be displayed at the College Catwalk and will also be utilized as learning materials peace campaigns and advocacies.
The workshop was held from February 22-23, 2013 at the Campion Lecture Hall. Participating schools include: Claret School of Zamboanga City, Immaculate Concepcion Archdiocesan School – Upper Calarian, Pilar College, ZION Evangelical School, and Ateneo de Zamboanga University.
