APCI holds biannual Cultura de Paz Workshop for Ateneo employees

The Ateneo Peace and Culture Institute (APCI), with its goal of enabling members of the Ateneo community to become active advocates of peace building and conflict management in the society, conducted the Cultura de Paz Workshop for members of the ADZU faculty and academic and non-academic staff on two separate dates this year.

Members of the faculty and academic staff attended the workshop on July 11 to 12, 2012 at Our Lady of Pilar Retreat and Lay Formation Center, Mercedes, Zamboanga City. Among the first batch of participants were faculty members from the College of Science and Information Technology (CSIT), School of Liberal Arts (SLA), School of Management and Accountancy (SMA), College of Nursing (CN), and School of Education (SED). Also present in the event were academic staff from the High School Department, College Guidance Office, Chemistry Laboratory, and Social Awareness and Community Service Involvement (SACSI) Office.

On the other hand, the non-academic staff had their training on July 19 to 21, 2012 at House of Peace, Harmony Village, Sinunuc, Zamboanga City. They were represented by staff members from Campus Ministry, Ateneo Center for Leadership and Governance (ACLG), Assistant to the Academic Vice President Office, Formation Office, Office of Students Affairs (OSA), Human Resource Administration and Development Office (HRADO), Center of Information Technology Services (CITS), College Registrar’s Office, Gallery of the Peninsula and Archipelago (GPA), Grade School Library, Audio Visual Center, Testing and Measurement Office, School of Medicine, High School Computer Laboratory, Admissions Office, and ADZU Press and Property Custodian Office.

The Cultura de Paz Workshop is a biannual initiative done by the APCI that aims to let ADZU employees from the academic and non-academic offices promote the culture of peace, understand concepts, issues and pedagogies of peace, reflect on actions vis-á-vis framework, and adopt more peaceful ways of proceeding.

With interactive discussions and well-planned activities to offer, APCI’s Cultura de Paz Workshop serves as a training ground for Ateneo community members as they gear themselves up for the task of fulfilling the institutional vision of bringing about peace and development in the city, the region, and the nation.
