Underway at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Salvador campus along La Purisima, is the construction of the 5-story Senior High School building at the SHS Complex.
New, Modern, and Environment-friendly, the new SHS building replaces part of the former Grade School complex where two buildings stood, the Matteo Ricci Hall and Berchman Hall.
The new home of the SHS will be furnished with high-end facilities, including some 30 classrooms, laboratories, a library, office rooms, a chapel, prayer rooms, cafeteria, and commercial spaces, and some special features such as ramps and an elevator.
It will also sport a “Green” look, with a rain collection system, self-sustaining green spots, and a provision for solar panels, as part of the University’s thrust toward using renewable energy, particularly the Solar Energy Power system.
To date, the construction of the SHS building has been the major development under the continuing Rebuilding Program of AdZU dubbed RISE which commenced after the July 2016 fire that burned down the Brebeuf Gym and adjacent buildings.
Since then, rising from the ashes, the University has taken on infrastructure projects to rebuild the campus, including the renovation of Gonzaga Hall and Kostka building, and the retrofitting of Sauras Hall.
Infrastructure is one key area in the RISE campaign of AdZU, to rise amidst the adversities brought about by the fire and other challenges facing the University. The construction of new buildings is intricately part of the University’s plan to fulfill its mission of educating and forming future leaders who will work toward its vision of transforming Mindanao and the country into a place of “peace, healing and progress,” and devote their lives Pro Deo et Patria.
Also in the offing under the University Campus Master Development Plan is the construction of a Multipurpose building which will house, among others, a gym and an auditorium.
