AdZU tapped to train newly elected SK officials

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University Center for Leadership and Governance rolled out a series of training after the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the National Youth Commission sought its help for the Mandatory Training of the newly-elected Sangguniang Kabataan Officials. The ACLG, with the mandate to help local communities in capacity building and good governance, held the training from May 17-25, 2018 in the provinces of Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga City, and Isabela City in Basilan Province simultaneous with the Mandatory Training held nationwide.

This is the first time that newly-elected SK Officials have undergone a training before assuming office.

Required under the Republic Act 10742 or the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015, the training covered SK history, decentralization and local governance, meetings and resolutions, planning and budgeting, and ethics.

A select pool of facilitators from the Local Youth Development Office and Ateneo’s Higher Education Unit, facilitated the activity to an estimated total of 3,000 SK officials from the different barangays of Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga City, and Isabela City.
