AdZU Supports The 2015 CENSUS of Population

ADZU SUPPORTS THE 2015 CENSUS OF POPULATION

Ateneo de Zamboanga University encourages everyone to support the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015) which will take place from August 10 to the first week of September.

POPCEN 2015 will be conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority. It will be a complete enumeration of households, with the primarily goal of taking inventory of people in the entire country.

Enumerators will collect information on some characteristics of the population, such as age, gender, marital status and highest education completed. Census enumerators will go from house to house to conduct interviews. According to PSA, these interviews will only take 15 to 20 minutes each.

Statistical data gathered from the census will give government executives, policy and decision makers and planners with valuable information such as updated population count of all barangays in the country, which can be used as basis for social and economic development plans, policies and programs.

In the past, statistics from the census were used for redistricting and apportionment of congressional seats; allocation of resources and revenues; identification of sites for establishing businesses; improvement of supply of labor for the production of goods and services; conduct of researches on population and relates disciplines, among others.

The national government first conducted a population census in in 1903. One in taken every ten years. This year’s census will be the 14th.
