Michael Angelo H. Filoteo, MD, MPH a recent graduate of ADZU-SOM together with other 19 medical doctors, veterinarians, epidemiologists and virologists from 11 Asian countries attended the Surveillance and Control of Rabies held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia last October 27 to November 07, 2015. The course was organized by Cambodia in coordination with the Pasteur Institute in Paris and the World Health Organization (WHO).
The course included training sessions on surveillance of rabies; clinical diagnosis of rabies both in humans and animals; laboratory diagnosis for humans and animals; dog rabies control; field activities on catching and vaccinating dogs; education, awareness and community participation and phylogeny in theory and practice.
Successful trainees were awarded 8 European Credits Transfer System (ECTS) by the University of Lausanne, Switzerland.
Dr. Filoteo was also given the opportunity to present his research entitled “The Effect of Bantay Rabies sa Barangay on the Knowledge and Practices on Rabies and Responsible Pet Ownership of the Residents of Barangay Pilar, Municipality of Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay Province”.
This research was conducted while he was still on his 4th year medical education in ADZU-SOM. This same research was also awarded as the winner of the One Health Challenge by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC) – Philippines in the year 2013.
