AdZU CGCO and HCD provide TRE training to relief workers in Zamboanga City

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University College Guidance and Counseling Office (CGCO) in collaboration with Human Capital Development (HCD) conducted a three-day Train the Trainer Program on TRE (Trauma and Tension Releasing Exercise) on February 10 to 12, 2014 at the Multipurpose Covered Court, Ateneo de Zamboanga University La Purisima Campus.

The speakers for the training were Hindra Gunawan and Lie Kai Fung and Dwi Librianto from Indonesia, Dennis Tay from Singapore, and Manuel H tan from Mandaluyong Philippines. AdZU subsidized for the materials used in the training so that participants were only asked to pay a minimum fee for food and snacks. The participants came from offices and departments in the city that provide frontline services to the Zamboanguenos.

The intervention specifically focused on integrative mind and body techniques designed to help regulate and manage stress, emotions, and arousal (i.e. strategies for lowering anxiety when it is too high or for increasing arousal when it is too low). TRE provides a preventive approach that strengthens resilience and helps to avoid the development of more severe and serious psychological and physiological issues. This technology will not only be beneficial to victims but was primarily meant to support relief workers in maintaining personal balance. The main objective of TRE is to train people in Zamboanga to teach TRE to others so that Zamboangueños are equipped to restore their own balance and resilience.
