AdZU celebrates Independence Day

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) Grade School celebrated the 117th anniversary of the Proclamation of the Philippine Independence with the theme “Kalayaan 2015: Tagumpay sa Pagbabagong Nasimulan, Abot-Kamay na ng Bayan”  (Independence 2015: Triumphs Through Reforms, Within Nation’s Reach) at the activity Hall, Lower Grounds of the Grade School Complex last July 19, 2015.

This was highlighted by the launching of the “Kalayaan Exhibit” which displayed illustrations that depicts Filipino Heroism. The exhibits were chronologically arranged from the struggles of our forefathers during the Spanish Era until the declaration of the country’s independence. The overview of the exhibit was presented by Mr Arvin J Giva, Sibika at Kultura teacher.

Various activities were prepared and carried out for the entire week which was organized and sponsored by the Sibika at Kultura Department spearheaded by Mrs. Baby Lyn V. Tubilla, chairperson. These included the making and coloring of the Philippine flag, and paper craft activities which was participated by the preschool to the Grade three students. While the Grades four to six students engaged in film-viewing, poster and collage-making activities. A Book Fair featuring books that talk about independence is ongoing at the Grade School library in coordination the Instruction and Media Center (IMC).

The celebration also honored the 154th birth anniversary of the National Hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, one of the key persons that led to independence. This was also a day of remembering the many Filipinos who sacrificed and shared their lives for the country’s independence.
