AdZU CCES partners with Jollibee Group Foundation and DepED for in-school feeding of students
The Ateneo Center for Community Extension Services (CCES), in partnership with the Jollibee Group Foundation and the Department of Education, launched the 120-day in-school feeding program on July 9, 2014 at the JMR Function Hall, Eusebio Salvador, SJ Campus. The event aimed to orient the partner schools on the scheme of implementation and purpose of the program, as well as to officially launch it for this school year.
The program aims to improve the nutritional status of the undernourished school-aged children, increase their attendance, and improve their academic performance. The program is currently on its 4th year of implementation and has expanded to 2 new public schools with high cases of malnutrition for a total of 7 schools this year.
Teachers and Principals from Malagutay Elementary School, Edwin Andrews Air Base Elementary School, Mercedes Central School, Sinunuc Elementary School, and Lunzuran Elementary School were present during the orientation. Also there were DepEd District Nurses and the Ateneo High School Social Action.
Ms Janed A Chan, CCES Project Officer stated “The BLT can only accommodate 40 undernourished kids per school. The number may seem insignificant but the impact it has on the lives of these 40 kids is enormous. Malnutrition is very rampant but with the help of the project and the support of its stakeholders, we hope to make a difference one child at a time.”
