AdZU CCES gears up for Angiskul ma Bangka with Cartwheel Foundation
The Ateneo Center for Community Extension Services (CCES) met with the City Social Welfare and Development and the Mampang Barangay Council on July 9, 2014 for an orientation regarding a new project called Angiskul ma Bangka (Classes in Bancas). The project, slated to begin by August this year, is a partnership between CCES and the Cartwheel Foundation.
The Angiskul ma Bangka (Classes in Bancas) is an informal education program for Badjao children of pre-school age at the Transitory Site, Barangay Mampang. The program aims to help alleviate the vulnerable situation of the Badjao children by: a) Providing them with the opportunity to learn in a safe environment; b) Providing them with relevant education that integrates their culture and life ways.
The orientation aimed to inform the local partners – City Social Welfare and Development, BLGU and other stakeholders – on the concept and partnership scheme of the Angiskul ma Bangka. Ms Fedilita Dejumo, Camp Manager and Mampang Kagawad Tommy San Antinio were present to represent City Social Welfare and Development Office and Mampang Barangay Council respectively.
Ms Loreta Sta Teresa, CCES Director, expressed that “working with Badjao is a very challenging role. However, we believe that we could make a change if we work hand and hand. I know that we can’t save the entire community of Badjao but at least we could make a difference by educating their children at a very young age.”
