ACLG holds 1st Region IX MLGP Colloquium

To further reinforce the participants’ leadership capacities gained from earlier trainings, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University through the Center for Leadership and Governance (ADZU-CLG), and in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) and the Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF), conducted the 1st Colloquium for the Municipal Leadership and Governance Program (MLGP) on August 24-26 at the Garden Orchid Convention Center, Zamboanga City.

Attended by the Local Chief Executive (LCE), Municipal Health Officer (MHOs), Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer (MSWDO), and the Municipal Planning and Development Officer (MPDC) of the municipalities of Siocon, Salug, Sergio Osmeña, Roxas, and Tigbao, the colloquium was an offshoot  of the two MLGP modules and six months practicum (in between modules) in which the health teams celebrated their MLGP achievements,  but also to take stock of their learning and experiences that could guide them through the challenges beyond the program.

The MLGP modules and practicum were designed to build the capacities of key municipal officers and personnel to address the health challenges in their respective municipalities. Using the Municipal Health System Development Roadmap, this batch of participants developed responsive health systems to address issues affecting safe maternal delivery and infant births.

Prior to the said activity, the candidate municipalities have undergone the on-site valuation conducted by the ACLG to ensure that there were marked changes in Leadership as seen through their respective municipal roadmaps and interviews with key stakeholders.

The colloquium highlights were: the Leadership Recollection given by AdZU President, Fr Karel S  San Juan SJ who has a doctorate degree in Leadership Studies from Gonzaga University in Washington; and the presentations of the LCEs and the MHOs of their public narrative son health challenges and their leadership responses to improve the municipal health system in their respective towns.
