Accenture partners with ALTEC for usability test on YOMA website

Written by Lawrence Agustin

Zamboanga City, Philippines | In a collaborative effort aimed at enhancing the user experience of the Youth Agency Marketplace (YOMA), a flagship program of Generation Unlimited (GenU), Ateneo Learning and Teaching Excellence Center (ALTEC) joined forces with Accenture to conduct a comprehensive usability test on the Youth Agency Marketplace (YOMA). YOMA, a platform designed to empower young people by offering various learning opportunities and courses to bolster their transferable and digital skills, was tested by seven young people who were also a part of ALTEC’s SUGPAT Program’s FIRST LEaP (Fostering ICT-Related Skills through LEaP, a free 3-hour session on basic digital literacy skills). It was held at the American Corner within Ateneo de Zamboanga University’s Salvador Campus on September 5, 2023.

The youth participants were selected with the primary objective of gaining a firsthand understanding of the website’s user experience. These participants, who represent the primary demographic for YOMA, were encouraged to provide direct feedback and comments to help refine the platform.

Liana Maheso, a Management Consultant at Accenture, led the usability test together with her team members based in India and Canada.

Avelino Mejia, Jr., UNICEF Philippines’ Adolescent Skills Development Program Coordinator, graced the event with his presence online. He warmly welcomed the youth participants, providing valuable context and insights into the program’s significance. Mejia’s introductory remarks shed light on the program’s mission to improve employability through skills development opportunities.

The usability test encompassed an analysis of YOMA’s interface, navigation, content accessibility, and overall functionality. Participants were encouraged to explore the platform, engage with its features, and offer candid feedback on their experience. The feedback collected during the test will play a crucial role in fine-tuning YOMA to better meet the needs and expectations of its target audience.

ALTEC and Accenture’s collaborative effort exemplifies a commitment to youth empowerment and education. By involving young people directly in the enhancement process, the partnership aims to create a more user-friendly and effective learning environment within the YOMA platform. This initiative aligns with the broader goals of Generation Unlimited, which seeks to equip young individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving world.

As the results of the usability test are analyzed and implemented, it is expected that YOMA will continue to serve as a valuable resource for young people seeking to enhance their skills and expand their opportunities.
