Ayala Museum, IMOW, and AdZU collaborate for the Muslim Women’s Arts and Voices Workshop
The Gallery of the Peninsula and the Archipelago, through the aid of ADZU’s Assistant to the President for Social Development Father Albert Alejo, conducted the workshop for the Muslim Women’s Arts and Voices art project on January 17, 2013 at Father Eusebio Salvador SJ campus, at the Carlos Dominguez Conference Hall and the Learning Resource Center’s Conference Room. The workshop was a collaboration with the International Museum of Women (IMOW) in San Francisco, the Ayala Museum, and Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU).
Several brilliant and outstanding young Muslim women based in Davao, Jolo, Cotabato, Metro Manila and Zamboanga participated in the workshop: Bailallie Lidasan, Norhaiya Diabo-Macusang, Nassreena Sampaco-Baddiri, Amanah Busran Lao, Rosslaini Alonto; Linda Bansil, Nadjoua Bansil, Zelika Lawi, and Lovelle Diocess Lauzon.
The workshop had two modules: Global Dialogue-Building and a Collaborative Multimedia Writing Art Session. Participants got to know each other and learned about how to contribute to an online exhibition that will be shaped by the following key themes: Power, Leadership, Appearance, Myths, Connection, Generations, Faith, and Love. Through the lens of these themes, the project will confront stereotypes about Muslim women, identify new visions and inspire visitors to take action.
Muslim Women’s Art & Voices is a public awareness art project showcasing the voices and visions of young Muslim women. Participants in four diverse countries will create and curate art and multimedia to raise public awareness in their communities and beyond about the richness and diversity of their lives, ideas, and identities, confronting popular and pervasive misconceptions and stereotypes. The result will be a media-rich, global, online exhibition, augmented by in-country events and awareness raising activities. There are four participating museums around the globe: Women’s Museum in Aarhus, Denmark, the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization in Sharjah, UAE, the International Museum of Women in San Francisco, US, and Ayala Museum.
The International Museum of Women (IMOW) is an innovative online museum that inspires creativity, awareness and action on vital global issues for women. As a completely virtual museum, IMOW uses social media, a vibrant web platform and global events to invite and disseminate diverse and dynamic art, writing and other content on critical contemporary issues for women. IMOW’s current online exhibition, MAMA: Motherhood Around the Globe raises awareness of the critical global issues effecting mothers, such as maternal health, through global art, ideas, videos and stories.
